Abstract: This qualitative study aimed to focus on the Parang Sabil as a symbol of resistance and cultural survival among the Tausug people of Mindanao with special focus on how martabbat (honor), dar al Islam (Islamic space), and tawheed (the oneness of God) was manifested. The study used Critical Discourse Analysis by Norman Fairclough to analyze the traditional narrative songs and tales such as Parang Sabil hi Baddun, Parang Sabil Kan Apud, Parang Sabil hi Mahmud, Kissa Kan Panglima Hassan, Parang Sabil hi Maharadja Untung and The Parang Sabil of Abdulla and Putli Isara to give insight into how the traditional motifs are expressed and articulate the Tausug identity. There was a collection of data in oral folk stories, academic publications, dissertations, and historical texts, and it was subjected to an analytical-descriptive approach. The findings suggest that the Parang Sabil represents the basic cultural values like honor, self-sacrifice, devotion, and collective responsibility. The role of these stories as epic legends and ritualistic activities in the Tausug people is to enhance social cohesion, spirituality and resistance to colonial oppression. The study concludes that the Parang Sabil is critical in enforcing Tausug cultural dignity and self-identity, and it promotes the development of the same through proper documentation, inclusion in educational curricula, broader multidisciplinary research, and as an instrument of developing cross-cultural interactions.
