Abstract: At present, there are some problems in the physical education teaching of primary and secondary schools in our country. One of the prominent problems is that the teaching methods chosen by many primary and secondary school physical education teachers are unreasonable, and the skills in applying various teaching methods are relatively lacking. For this reason, this paper focuses on the reasonable selection and application skills of physical education teaching methods in primary and middle schools. According to the study, primary and secondary school physical education teachers should choose teaching methods according to the "rational choice theory", including game method, competition method, explanation method, question and answer method, etc. In specific teaching, it is suggested that physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools apply various teaching methods according to the "behavioral learning theory" to achieve the teaching goals faster and better and improve the teaching effect.
