Abstract: This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of parents in Barangay Calao Calao, Don Carlos, Bukidnon, who made the difficult decision to withdraw their children from school. The research seeks to understand the underlying factors—economic, personal, and psychosocial—that drive such choices, and how parents perceive the role of education in their children’s lives. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight parents and analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that financial hardship remains the most significant driver, often forcing families to prioritize immediate needs over long-term educational goals. Personal factors, such as a child’s motivation, peer influence, and emotional well-being, also play a crucial role. Parents consistently view education as a pathway to empowerment and hope, yet feel unsupported by schools and local institutions. The study recommends the development of holistic, culturally sensitive support programs that address both economic and emotional barriers to school retention.
