Abstract: In the context of globalization and increasingly complex security and defense dynamics, National Defense and Security Education (NDSE) in Vietnamese universities faces an urgent need for profound reform to adapt to the demands of the new era. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the current status of NDSE within Vietnam’s higher education system, clearly identifying global challenges such as cyber security, information warfare, climate change, pandemics, and other non-traditional security threats. Based on this analysis, the paper proposes comprehensive reform directions encompassing curriculum content, teaching methodologies, and policy mechanisms. The goal is to enhance the quality of NDSE, fostering a generation of students with strong political integrity, critical thinking, crisis response skills, and a deep sense of national responsibility. The proposed policy recommendations aim to contribute to developing a modern, sustainable, integrative, and adaptive NDSE system that meets new global challenges.
