| Abstract: |
The study highlights the positive influence of authentic materials on English teaching and learning, underscoring that such materials as newspapers, videos, and social media significantly enhance student engagement and motivation compared to traditional textbooks. Despite the critical role of authentic materials in fostering language proficiency, a gap exists in practical exposure, with many students graduating without experiencing actual language use in their education. The study focuses on the utilization of authentic materials in English teaching at the tertiary level in Vietnam drawing on an online survey from students at Academy of Journalism and Communication (AJC), Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), and Tay Nguyen University (TNU). The survey examined students' experiences with authentic materials during their higher education and compared responses from students in different specializations to those from the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The objective was to assess the emphasis on authentic materials within the curriculum and their impact on language learning. The findings aim to shed light on the integration of authentic sources in English language teaching (ELT), suggesting a potential avenue for enhancing language teaching strategies at the tertiary level in Vietnam. |
