Abstract: |
The study aimed to explore the lived experiences of how parent-student teachers balanced their parenting and teaching internships. It explored the real-life experiences of parent-student teachers as they navigated the difficulties of effectively managing their roles as both parents and teaching interns. A qualitative research design and phenomenological approach were employed, and data were collected among the selected parent-student teachers at Don Carlos Polytechnic College during the second semester of the school year 2023-2024. Results showed that parent-student teachers are driven by personal motivation and aspirations to become teachers through a standardized interview questionnaire validated by a content expert. They overcome unexpected parenthood and prioritize their family before completing education, but they exhibit resilience, perseverance, and a strong drive to succeed in life. Parent-student teachers juggle parenting and teaching, facing challenges in time management, scheduling, and the need for support and dependence. Parent-student teachers employ effective time management strategies as a key coping mechanism to handle the competing demands of parenting and a teaching internship. The narratives shared by participants in this study serve as an inspiration and a great way for other parent-student teachers to obtain consolidation, strategies for amelioration, and a realistic perception of the hurdles that are likely to arise. Moreover, the study highlighted the crucial role of support, resilience, and effective time management for parent-student teachers in fulfilling their dual roles. |
