| Abstract: |
Respiratory tract infections are among the most frequently encountered clinical conditions and are one of the most common reasons for pediatric consultations in primary healthcare. Acute Respiratory Infections (ARIs) are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in children of developing countries. This research is planned with the general aims and the specific objectives as noted below.
• To study the prescribing pattern of antibiotics in children with acute respiratory tract infections.
• To develop antibiotic guidelines for usage in children with acute respiratory tract infections.
The process of Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) fits quite neatly into the concept of quality assurance in healthcare by virtue of its emphasis on the mechanisms to achieve safe, appropriate and effective drug use. The term Drug Utilization Review (DUR) and Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) are used interchangeably and DUE is the modern technology.
