Abstract
Research Area: Education
KeyWord: teaching philosophies, artificial intelligence
Abstract: This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education through the lens of teaching philosophies, assessing both the opportunities and challenges AI presents to educators. Using a sample of 102 respondents, the study identifies the prevalence of four dominant teaching philosophies: Humanism (24.51%), Reconstructionism (15.69%), Essentialism (13.73%), and Constructivism (12.75%). These philosophies emphasize values such as personal growth, social responsibility, foundational knowledge, and active learning principles that remain critical even in the context of AI’s growing role in education. Respondents perceive AI primarily as a tool for enhancing student engagement, personalization, and educational resources while acknowledging its role in administrative tasks. However, concerns about AI diminishing critical thinking skills and introducing biases in AI-generated content were also noted. The study suggests that AI can complement traditional teaching methods by supporting individualized learning and reducing teacher workload. Still, it emphasizes the necessity of maintaining the human aspects of teaching, such as emotional support, empathy, and moral guidance. It is recommended that AI be used thoughtfully, ensuring that it enhances pedagogical practices while preserving the integrity of teacher-student relationships. Continuous professional development for educators and ethical considerations in AI integration are also critical to its effective use. This study contributes to the ongoing conversation on AI's transformative potential in education, urging a balanced approach that leverages technology while retaining core human-centered educational values.
