Abstract: Interpretation plays an important role in training programs of English language bachelors at some universities. In order to be an effective interpreter, the student needs to go through a long process of practising with appropriate techniques. At the School of Foreign Languages – Thainguyen university, Vietnam, most of the lecturers were not trained in the major of interpretation, their teaching contents were decided subjectively and varied from person to person. This research was conducted to see how the students evaluated the techniques introduced by analysing the frequency that they used the techniques and their opinions towards their effectiveness. The results showed that even though the teachers guided them with a number of techniques that were necessary for their practice, the students applied only four of them in their actual use. It was suggested that the teachers needed to spend more time on drilling the other unused techniques to maximise the chances of success in interpretation for their students.
