| Abstract: |
ABSTRACT
The tsunami that happened in 2004 claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. This caused by the lack of knowledge of most people about the disaster, including how to save themselves from the disaster. Therefore, Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala, which serves as a technical implementation unit for disaster mitigation, encourage Universitas Syiah Kuala to enact general compulsory course of Disaster and Environmental Knowledge (Pengetahuan Kebencanaan dan Lingkungan) in Universitas Syiah Kuala. The general compulsory course of Disaster and Environmental Knowledge uses blended learning which consists of 12 times face-to-face in the classroom and 4 times online classes. The courses which contents are selected to be developed in the form of E-learning materials are material I, II and V. This research has several aims, the first is to develop an easy to understand e-learning contents as one the efforts to increase the students’ capacity. The second is to apply general education to build the character of the students who are resilient to disasters and have a good moral attitude and character. The last is to test the developed E-learning materials to the students and the lecturers of Pengetahuan Kebencanaan dan Lingkungan to obtain the overall responses to the corresponding E-learning materials. The method in this research is using the ADDIE Model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The development carried out by utilizing multimedia elements that are text, images, videos, and animations. Multimedia used herein to enrich the E-learning materials. General Education implemented through group and individual assignments. In addition, General Education applied through the provision of examples based on local wisdom in the community and general knowledge about disasters provided through the ‘Tahukah Kamu’ corner. Based on the preliminary test, it was found that the content of E-learning materials was able to improve students to understand the general compulsory course of Disaster and Environmental Knowledge with the average students choosing ‘good’ for the three materials that are material I, II and V. |
