| Abstract: |
An efficient financial system is evidence of a country's economic growth. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a financial crisis in 2020 resulting in many consequences affecting the world economy. The financial industry in Vietnam is no exception. However, this effect is completely different when compared to the two financial crises in 1997-1998 and 2007-2008. Some foreign studies show that the Covid 19 pandemic reduces bank efficiency. This study has studied the factors affecting the financial performance of Vietnamese commercial banks during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through panel data collected from audited reports of 30 Vietnamese commercial banks in the period 2011 - 2021, using quantitative research methods with different models of OLS, FEM, REM, GMM, the research results of the DGMM model show that the factors affecting the financial performance of Vietnamese commercial banks have clarified the variables that are statistically significant and have a positive impact on the ROAA of the period 2011 - 2021 are: bank size, equity ratio, liquidity ratio, inflation rate, lagged variable ROAA, lagged variable ROAE have a positive impact on ROAA and ROAE ; bad debt variable has the opposite effect. The variables credit growth rate, income diversification rate, and economic growth are not statistically significant. Since then, the research has recommended the following policies: increase scale, reduce bad debt ratio, increase equity, increase liquidity, control inflation well, reduce bad debt ratio. |
