| Abstract: |
Amlodipine and Losartan are the most common drugs used to treat Hypertension. This study is a Retro prospective study which aims at evaluation of adverse effects of amlodipine and losartan in general OPD. Total of 600 patients were taken in this study out of which 205 were diagnosed by hypertension (125 were males and 80 were females). Total no. Of patients which were going regular treatment were 194. 11 patients preferred other treatments or were not regular.172 patients were taking Amlodipine and 22 were taking Losartan.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and losartan is angiotensin II receptor blocker. Amlodipine users 48.25% (83) patient reported side effects. For Losartan, only 36.3 % (8) patients reported side effects. Overall amlodipine showed more adverse effects than losartan. Side effects experienced most frequently in Amlodipine were peripheral edema 37.3% dizziness (18%), flushing (10.84%), constipation (31.3%), problem in respiration (25.3%) and back pain (4.81%).
