Abstract: |
Jan-ni Suraksha Yojna (JSY), a scheme of Govt. of India as a part of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was launched in 2005 with the aim to reduce incidence of neonatal and maternal deaths by promoting institutional deliveries. The scheme is now being implemented as a safe motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission with particular focus on poor pregnant women. Aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of Jan-ni Suraksha Yojna among the beneficiaries of rural areas of Punjab.
Objectives: (i) To evaluate the effectiveness on JSY; (ii) To find out association of socio-demographic factors with effectiveness of JSY. Method: It was a cross-sectional, descriptive design and qualitative method of data collection. Result: Only 3.7% of respondents knew about the name of scheme, 68% had good level of satisfaction and 29% had fair level of satisfaction whereas only 2% were poorly satisfied with services provided under JSY. Conclusion: The effectiveness of JSY was of moderate level. Government of India should find ways to promote the utilization of scheme by providing awareness to the population regarding the benefits of the scheme. It is suggested that Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) need be given adequate quality training and should be given due remuneration and periodically be reinforced for adequate visits to the needy to reduce the neonatal and maternal deaths
