Abstract: |
Though language and culture are the two separate entities, both are mutually connected and interdependent. Language can be defined as a means of communication of thoughts, ideas feelings and emotions. Culture can be defined as an assimilation of certain practices, customs, rituals and traditions. Culture also suggests the ways of behavior, mannerism, the way of thinking or general outlook of a particular group of the people. It is the culture that makes the language. Whereas, language in it’s turn reflects culture, preserves it and passes it on to the next generation. Most of the properties of the culture are also the properties of the language. Language as whole is made up of concepts and propositions. Language is a primary means of socialization – the process by which children are turned in to fully competent member of their society. In an age of multiculturalism language plays very important role. It contributes not only for the culture preservation but also in the realization of the different cultural sensibilities. Not only language preserves culture but it is the culture that explains language. With the multiple development and advancement in the culture, there too occur number of changes and advancements in language. In this age of globalization and multiculturalism language is never incomplete or incompetent to give expression to new things.
Though language and culture are the two separate entities, both are mutually connected and interdependent. Language and culture both are the aspects of social behavior and can be treated as the two sides of the same coin. They are merged in each other and the existence of the one without the other is almost impossible. They reciprocate each other, sustain and generate each other.
