| Abstract: |
This study discusses the relationship between the level of smartphone usage and the level of concentration among Senior High School students in private schools for the school year 2025–2026. The descriptive-correlational design was used to determine how the duration and type of smartphone activities affect students’ ability to focus on their studies. Two hundred (200) respondents from Grades 11 and 12 participated in the study, selected through stratified sampling.
A validated survey questionnaire was utilized, divided into three parts: (1) level of smartphone usage, (2) level of concentration, and (3) the relationship between the two variables. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Results showed that most students use smartphones for more than four hours per day, primarily for social media, communication, and academic tasks. It was also found that their level of concentration in learning remains high, as indicated by an overall mean of 3.90, interpreted as Strongly Agree. Students can sustain focus for long periods when distractions are minimized and perform better when smartphones are used responsibly for academic purposes. Although notifications and multitasking occasionally affect attention, learners generally demonstrate strong self-regulation and mental focus.
Based on the analysis, there is a significant relationship between the level of smartphone usage and concentration, but it is not entirely negative. Proper smartphone use helps maintain focus and improve academic performance. The study recommends promoting digital discipline and time management to maintain a balanced use of technology in education.
