Abstract
Research Area: Sociology
KeyWord: Agriculture, Irrigation, Cost of Cultivation, Water Renovation Structure
Abstract: Agricultural activity has always included adaptation to a number of diverse stresses and opportunities-elements that continue influencing developments in the agri-food sector. This sector contributes 17% of Indian GDP at current prices. It is worth to mention that the agriculture sector provides jobs to around 53% population of India. India is a country of millions of people among them around 833.1 million people live in 640,867 different villages, where agriculture is a vast sector. In such a situation this study was conducted at Sajjangarh Block in Banswara District of Rajasthan. This is a tribal based area where people are financially and socially belongs from poor category. Tribal area people mainly focus on their old traditional system rather than technology but according to the time proper traditional system is also disappear mainly in case of agriculture practices and food practices and these is the reason behind there is no development. Without water life is not possible so think about water and water management both are very important part of human life and particularly this area is a water scarcity area so renovate the old water storage structure and construct new water harvest structure is very much necessary. As part of old structure in this area, old govt. open well, small pond and mainly big bhoorakua pond and check dams should be renovate first. As new water storage structure farm pond, check dam, cemented tank, earthen tank can be created and in case of sloppy land contour bunding can be made which conserve the soil moisture by preventing the water drainage. Through the research it has found that main irrigated crops are wheat, maize, chick pea and cotton and very few people go for vegetable cultivation and main rain fed crop is kharif-maize and some farmers also cultivate rice, urad, arhar, jowar and soybean. Main consumption and marketing crops of this area people are wheat and maize but B: C ratio of wheat and maize is 0.81 and 0.42,which reveals that farmers are going through loss though while cultivating maize farmers do mix cropping with chick pea and maize but farmers don’t have proper knowledge about agricultural practices mainly about seed rate, sowing pattern and irrigation system. B: C ratio of chick pea and cotton are 1.22 and 1.17 both are not so high. Through different case studies it has been found out that there are few farmers who follow best agricultural practices in crop wise like system root intensification in wheat, proper line sowing, adequate seed rate use, adapt irrigation system like furrow irrigation system in maize, chick pea and cotton, weed control, proper fertilizer and pesticide doses are also part of their best practices. All these leads to good quantity yield and their gross profit is higher than gross cost and B: C ratio is also quite good. B: C ratio of wheat, (maize+chick pea-mix cropping) and cotton are 1.07, 1.26 and 1.39. Adaptation of crop wise best practices among all farmers should be mandatory to increase the crop yield and as parts of best agricultural practices take care of irrigation system is also an important step. So instead of flood irrigation crop wise furrow, sprinkler and drip irrigation is very much needed which will give better yield and also farmers will not face the water scarcity problem. Most of the farmers in this location are small and marginal so instead of mono cropping mix cropping mainly with highly demandable pulses like tuar, urad, arhar along with cereal crops can be cultivatedwhich will increase net profit and food cycle will also be maintained.
