Abstract: |
The study at Tongantongan National High School delved into the impact of smartphone use on the academic performance of STEM students. By conducting interviews with 15 students who spend more than 8 hours daily on their smartphones, researchers revealed three main themes with six sub-themes that underscored the advantages and disadvantages of using smartphones for educational purposes. The findings highlighted the importance for schools to strike a balance between harnessing smartphones for educational benefits and being aware of the potential hazards of excessive phone use. This underscores the necessity for thorough research methods to gain a deeper insight into students' phone usage in education and enhance academic outcomes. Moreover, the study emphasized the significance of self-discipline in managing smartphone distractions during study time, proposing techniques like silencing phones and creating distraction-free environments to enhance academic performance and communication skills. Leveraging YouTube tutorials for skill development and maximizing smartphones for note-taking and collaboration further illuminated the pivotal role of technology in amplifying the educational experience. Integrating productive apps and tools into academic endeavors enables students to optimize their learning processes and cultivate vital skills essential for success in today's digitally-driven world. This comprehensive approach not only supports academic achievement but also fosters a deeper understanding of complex subjects and encourages collaboration among peers. Educators and students are encouraged to continue exploring innovative ways to harness technology's benefits while mitigating its potential drawbacks to create a more effective and enriching learning environment.
