| Abstract: |
Rice eels (Monopterus albus) are fascinating creatures that have adapted to survive in diverse environments, including rice fields. This study aimed to investigate the behavior and survival strategies of rice eels in the specific context of rice field ecosystems. Through a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative calculations of population density and qualitative observations of behaviors and adaptations, valuable insights were gained. The population density of rice eels was found to fluctuate across different quadrants and nights, with an average of 1.78 eels per square meter observed. These fluctuations suggest dynamic distribution patterns influenced by factors such as food availability and water sources. Additionally, the study revealed the remarkable survival strategies of rice eels, including their cryptic coloration for camouflage and burrowing behavior for protection. These findings contribute to a better understanding of rice eels' ecological role and can inform sustainable farming practices. By shedding light on the adaptive strategies of rice eels, this research lays the foundation for effective management measures and conservation efforts in rice field ecosystems. |
