Abstract: |
The solar energy technology has an inevitable role to play towards the provision of sufficient energy for both industrial and domestic demand. The parabolic solar dish concentrator provides good opportunity towards the provision of power and other heating applications not just in Nigeria but all over the world. Nigeria is blessed with abundant solar energy and open vast land which are the prerequisite to utilization of parabolic solar dish concentrator towards the provision of energy. Researches done are still limited either due to lack of materials, financial implications or regional differences. This paper presents a performance analysis of parabolic solar dish concentrator for steam generation and cooking applications. It explores a design option for utilizing and managing the available local raw materials and using the option of appropriate modeling in finding the focal point of the dish. Aluminium sheet was used in coating the parabolic dish in order to provide a high reflecting material for achieving high efficiency. Results obtain show that, the overall efficiency of the reflecting material was found to be 32.5% with cooking power of 63.5w which is sufficient for heating and cooking applications. |
