| Abstract: |
The study deals with the original existence and socio-cultural conditions of Dalit and tribes of Saraj area in Chenab valley of Jammu and Kashmir. The present research gives focus on historical importance of these sections with their main issues and possible measures to overcome hindrances in the path of development in modern time. The Indian caste system , backward economy and regional problems has proved the main barriers of development in the region. The socially stratified system totally excluded lower caste called Dalit and tribes of the area. The impact of exclusion is tremendous on them. Women of both the communities are facing multiple social issues for their survival in the society.The local customs and traditions compel them to be ethnocentric in nature. Different policies were adopted for their development during colonial periods and after independence but no fruitful results came out till date. These tribes and marginalized group even today are facing multidimensional issues. |
