Abstract: |
Farming has long been a cornerstone of Filipino culture, particularly in rural communities such as Don Carlos, Bukidnon. However, the younger generation, especially those from farming families, are increasingly choosing career paths outside agriculture. This study examines the perception, involvement, and career aspirations of non-agriculture students from farming backgrounds at Don Carlos Polytechnic College. It aims to uncover the social, economic, and cultural factors shaping their decisions. Using a descriptive quantitative research design, this study employed a random sampling approach to survey 100 students across various academic programs. Multiple regression analysis revealed that Peer Influence significantly impacts farming perceptions ( = 0.3389, p< 0.001), highlighting the role of social exposure in shaping attitudes towards agriculture. Conversely, Education Exposure and Government Incentives showed no statistically significant effects, suggesting that traditional learning and financial support alone may not drive agriculture engagement. The findings emphasize the importance of peer-driven agricultural advocacy and experiential learning in encouraging young individuals to consider farming-related careers. Based on these insights, the study recommends strengthening student-led farming initiatives, enhancing hands-on learning opportunities, and redefining government initiatives to foster long-term interest in agriculture. Future research should explore longitudinal impacts of peer-driven agricultural campaigns, technological influences on modern farming perceptions, and cross-regional comparisons of youth engagement in agriculture |
