Abstract
Research Area: Education
KeyWord: Language Competence, Teaching Efficacy, Pre-Service Teachers
Abstract: The study assessed the English language competence and teaching efficacy of the English pre-service teachers, as well as the relationship between the variables using a descriptive-correlational research method. The data was gathered through survey questionnaires employed through Google Forms. The results revealed that, first, the pre-service teachers are generally considered highly competent in English. They were most competent in reading and least competent in speaking. Second, for teaching efficacy, pre-service teachers are generally considered highly effective. They are most effective at Organizing Materials and Activities for Language Teaching and are least effective in Using Reactive Classroom Management Strategies. Lastly, there is a highly significant relationship between English language competence and teaching efficacy among English pre-service teachers, with a moderate positive correlation of 0.365. With these results, we can conclude that it is essential for pre-service to possess high levels of language competence to be highly effective in teaching.
