Abstract: |
This systematic review examines Poland’s path to its notable achievements in the OECD PISA assessments by analysing key aspects of its education system: governance, learner support, teacher development, and curriculum reform. Over the past decade, Poland has strengthened its educational governance through a dual-ministry structure, balancing centralized policymaking with decentralized school autonomy. National standards and a core curriculum ensure consistency, while local flexibility fosters innovation and quality improvement. Investments in digital infrastructure and transparent accountability mechanisms further support system resilience. Learner development policies focus on cultivating analytical thinking, digital literacy, social-emotional well-being, and civic responsibility, supported by inclusive programs and vocational education aligned with labour market needs. Teacher development is framed as a lifelong process, emphasizing rigorous initial training, continuous professional growth, improved working conditions, and targeted support for vocational educators. Curriculum reforms prioritize interdisciplinary learning, health and civic education, and digital competence, preparing students for complex future challenges. These interconnected reforms have contributed to Poland’s rise in international assessments, reflecting enhanced equity, quality, and accountability. The findings highlight Poland’s comprehensive and balanced approach to education reform, offering valuable insights for countries seeking to improve student outcomes through systemic change. |
