Abstract: Often, researchers, students and business specialists analyze the movements of machines during their operations, when they are periodically repeated, and therefore cyclical. The analysis of movement as a function of time is supported by observations in agricultural or mining sites and by experiments during design for the determination of cycles. The problem in this case is determining the minimum number of observations or experiments, which can lead to a reliable result with 90% certainty. And this, according to the objectives set to avoid great loss of time. We propose to solve a typical example of a problem on the North loader (HELMKE engine, hydraulic power 132 kW) of the CBG at the Kamsar plant. It is on rail and is used to transport the wagon loaded with ore in front of the rocker and to bring back the empty wagon. The great interest is that the example is taken from the objective of the Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) which aims to achieve an average cycle of 3min15, instead of the current one which is 3 minutes 19 seconds on both North and South tumbling chargers. As the north loader had a malfunction on the float arm descent, we went through the diagnostic method to reduce it. The work was carried out using the following parameters: hydraulic power, flow rate and the time of descent of the arm which was reduced to 9 seconds instead of 12 seconds according to the instructions.
