| Abstract: |
Gestational trophoblastic disease is an overgrowth of trophoblastic tissue in pregnant or recently fertilized women. Manifestations may include an excessive increase in the size of the uterus, vomiting, vaginal bleeding and pre-eclampsia, especially in early pregnancy. The diagnosis includes measurement of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin, pelvic ultrasound and histological confirmation by biopsy. Tumors are resected by endo-uterine suction curettage. If the disease persists after resection, chemotherapy is indicated. |
