| Abstract: |
The craft of making conical hats is a long-standing traditional craft of the Tay ethnic minority group in Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, Vietnam. The conical hat is not only an item that serves daily needs but has become a typical cultural feature in the customs and practices of the Tay people. It plays an important role in the wedding ceremonies of Tay ethnic women. In addition to offerings such as blankets, curtains, and mats, the hat is brought by the bride to her husband's house with the hope that the bride will be a filial child, a love for her husband and children [1]. The unique features of the hat-making process are the care in selecting raw materials, the meticulousness in the splitting process, the dexterity and meticulousness in hat-knitting techniques to create products with the unique nuances of the Tay people. |
