Abstract: |
The study was to explore the state of traditional musical performance practice during the funeral celebration among the people of Asante Mampong. The study took a case study approach; with descriptive technique orientations. The population for the study was from Chiefs, Undertakers, performing arts and family heads. The sampling techniques equally made use of purposive and convenience. It came out from the study that traditional musical types such as Kete, Adowa, Nwonkro and dirges associate with the people in the study area but the patronage of these traditional musical assets are low and contemporary popular musical types have taken over even in the life cycle events. The study therefore recommended among others that, Mampong tradional council should team up with the Ghana Tourist Board, Centre for National Culture and the Mampong Municipal Assembly to institute a festival of arts and culture in the area to serve as a platform to showcase and appreciate the traditional musical assets in the area. Besides, all the traditional musical assets in the area should be digitized and preserve for posterity. |
