Abstract: |
This study investigates how listening comprehension and digital engagement affect language retention among Junior High School students at Dangcagan National High School in the Philippines. Recognizing that many students struggle to retain their English language skills, the research aims to identify effective strategies for improving language retention through digital learning tools. The study focuses on three key areas of listening comprehension: vocabulary understanding, identifying main ideas, and finding specific information. It also assesses the level of digital engagement among students regarding their use of digital tools and interactive learning experiences. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected through structured surveys from randomly selected students. The results indicate that students generally have a high level of vocabulary understanding and can find specific information effectively. However, challenges remain in inferring meanings from context and identifying the main ideas within spoken content. The findings suggest a significant relationship between listening comprehension, digital engagement, and language retention. This research highlights the importance of integrating digital resources into language education to create an engaging learning environment that fosters better retention of language skills. Ultimately, the study aims to provide insights that can help educators design more effective curricula that blend traditional teaching methods with modern technology. |
