Abstract: Zimbabweans like the majority of all global citizens hold the education of their children with high esteem to the extent that every examination is given the attention that it deserves by the concerned stakeholders especially parents and teachers. The first national examination that a child sit for in Zimbabwe is the Grade 7 national examination and expectations will be high because the outcome will determine the quality of secondary schooling the child will experience. It is not surprising when the results are publicised, pronouncing the completion of the examination process, that there are joys and tensions from educationists, parents and politicians. In the process schools are ranked from the cluster, district, and province and at national level. Upon publication of 2020 grade 7 examination results there was an uproar regarding the 0% pass rate by 88 schools. Of the 88 schools 31 of them are coming from Matabeleland districts. There were a lot of misinformed and misguided comments concerning the 0% pass rate of Matabeleland schools. Insults were hurled at teachers and teacher union leaders and the schools in general. It is unfortunate that comments and comparisons are instituted without taking into consideration the factual evidence behind the 0% pass rate. It becomes disturbing when some of the ignoramus comments come from individuals whom the nation perceives to be informed. Based on the non-constructive comments, this paper argues for the dismissal of the comparisons made. The evidence illustrating the levels of marginalisation of schools in Matabeleland is the basis for such dismissal. Matabeleland has been tortured, fractured, placed under siege and neglected before and after the attainment of independence because of the atrocities of Gukurahundi. Schools were destroyed and teachers were murdered by the Fifth Brigade send by Robert Mugabe the then Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. The fault lies with the government not the teachers or the stakeholders of Matabeleland. Document analysis is the source of data for this qualitative research. This paper is informed by the theory of Ubuntu because this is about how human relations can break or uplift one another. Supporting the theory to analyse the findings is the Interplay Hypothesis, which argue that educators make a big difference but their efforts can be greatly magnified in the right physical environment or hindered by the “wrong” one (Hamilton, 2020). The progression of learners and their failure is a result of human action. At the background of the findings I argue that Matabeleland schools must not be ranked and compared to other schools in the country because they have been neglected to dysfunctionality leading to the 0% pass rate
