Abstract: |
This study investigate the presence of Monopterus albus, commonly known as the rice eel, presents significant challenges to rice farming communities, particularly in regions where it infiltrates rice cultivation areas. This study sheds light on the detrimental effects of these eels on agricultural infrastructure, soil health, and crop productivity. Farmers face the pressing challenge of addressing structural damage caused by the eels' burrowing behavior, which leads to water drainage from rice fields and subsequent crop withering. Consequently, reduced crop production threatens farmers' livelihoods and economic stability. Urgent action is needed to implement effective pest management strategies, including embankment reinforcement and water management techniques, to minimize crop losses and ensure the continued success of rice farming in affected regions. Interdisciplinary collaboration between farmers, scientists, and policymakers is essential to develop comprehensive solutions that safeguard agricultural ecosystems and promote resilient farming communities. Addressing the challenges posed by Monopterus albus demands a multifaceted approach considering both ecological and socioeconomic factors, aiming to build more resilient and sustainable farming practices supporting crop productivity and environmental conservation. Further research is recommended to assess the ecological impacts of Monopterus albus infiltration in rice ecosystems, informing the development of targeted management strategies. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders are crucial to effectively mitigate the impacts of Monopterus albus on agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability, fostering partnerships and knowledge-sharing for holistic approaches towards a balanced and resilient agricultural ecosystem. |
