Abstract: Speaking is one of the four skills necessary for effective communication in any language, particularly when speakers are not using their mother tongue. The students as foreign learners learn English language to speak, here will be some errors made by the learners when they do a conversation in the speaking classroom. The purpose of this study are to find out Lecturers’ strategies in correcting students’ oral error and students’ preferences towards the type of oral corrective feedback given by the lecturers. The study employed quantitative research design and the subjects of this research are 55 freshman students at a public university. The data of the research was collected through 4 days of observation. The results showed that the most frequent error made by the students in the speaking class was phonological error, the most frequently used corrective feedback given by the lecturers was Clarification request; however, Explicit was the most favourite corrective feedback that students expected their lecturers to correct them when they made errors in phonology, grammar and lexis.
