Abstract: This paper explores Lev Vygotsky's Social Development Theory, which emphasizes the critical role of social interaction and language in cognitive development. Central to this theory is the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), which identifies the range of tasks that learners can perform with guidance but not independently. The study highlights the importance of scaffolding, which is temporary support provided by more knowledgeable individuals, as a key mechanism for promoting learner independence and confidence. Additionally, it examines how language serves as a fundamental tool for cognitive development, facilitating thought processes and problem-solving skills. The implications of Vygotsky’s theory for educational practices are discussed, advocating for teaching strategies that align with students' ZPDs and foster collaborative learning environments. Ultimately, this paper underscores the significance of social context in shaping cognitive processes and offers insights for educators seeking to implement Vygotskian principles in their classrooms.
