| Abstract: |
In the current trend of globalization, the demand on language skills, especially English speaking and writing, for the workforce is becoming more urgent. The testing and assessment of English, therefore, has been under great concern and of high importance. There exists a variety of recognized English tests available, however, most universities in Vietnam nowadays choose to use their self-designed test as assessment tool of their students’ English ability. Though advantages of this test type are undeniable, questions about its reliability and validity have been raised among not only learners, teachers but other social stakeholders. In this study, an insightful analysis of a self-designed test is conducted with the hope of improving the testing and assessment practice at a local university in Vietnam. Also, the paper proposes a kind of rubric for scoring students’ performance on the achievement test at the surveyed institution. |
