Abstract: |
This study investigates the relationship between interlanguage competency, social media use, and the oral communication skills of 150 senior high school students at Dangcagan National High School during the 2024-2025 academic year. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through structured surveys assessing interlanguage competency, social media engagement, and oral communication skills. The findings reveal that students exhibited a high level of interlanguage competency, particularly in pragmatic awareness (mean = 3.81) and communicative practices (mean = 3.84). A significant positive correlation was identified between interlanguage competency and oral communication skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.641 (p < 0.01), indicating that higher interlanguage proficiency is associated with improved speaking abilities. Social media engagement also showed a moderate correlation with oral communication skills (r = 0.504, p < 0.01), suggesting that students who actively use social media platforms tend to have better communication skills. These results highlight the importance of fostering interlanguage development and utilizing social media as effective tools for enhancing oral communication. The study underscores the need for targeted educational interventions that integrate these elements to support students in improving their language competencies and communication skills in diverse contexts. |
