Abstract
Research Area: Teacher Education

Abstract: This study explores the lived experiences of seasoned Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers in the Schools Division of Valencia City as they implement the MATATAG Curriculum, which now requires them to teach simultaneously all four TLE components—ICT, Agriculture and Fishery Arts, Family Consumer Science, and Industrial Arts—regardless of their specialization. The central problem identified is the lack of sufficient professional development and training for teachers suddenly expected to handle unfamiliar subject areas, resulting in feelings of inadequacy and stress. Other variables considered include access to peer collaboration, mentoring, and administrative support, which play a significant role in teachers’ adaptation to the new curriculum. Literature from both international and local sources (Global Partnership for Education, 2025; Şahin, 2025; Elardo, 2025; Alitao, 2025) consistently highlights that limited training opportunities and resource constraints hinder effective curriculum implementation and teacher growth. The objectives of this phenomenological study are to describe the teaching tenures and professional development experiences of TLE teachers, identify their challenges in teaching all subject components, examine the types of support received, and recommend improvements for teacher preparation under the MATATAG Curriculum. Conducted during the first quarter of School Year 2025-2026 in Valencia City, the study reveals that while teachers face significant obstacles, peer mentoring and collaboration offer vital support. The findings underscore the urgent need for equitable, sustained training and stronger institutional support to empower teachers and ensure the success of curriculum reforms.
