Abstract: |
This qualitative research investigates teachers' strategies to support Students-at-Risk of Dropping Out (SARDO) in the Maramag II District, Maramag, Bukidnon, Philippines. The study focuses on the critical issue of dropout rates, particularly among disadvantaged groups, by exploring effective interventions implemented across five high schools. Utilizing qualitative methods, including interviews via Google Forms and document analysis, the research captures educators' experiences and challenges in motivating at-risk students. Findings reveal four primary challenges: communication and engagement issues, attendance difficulties, teacher and school constraints, and family-related socioeconomic factors. Educators report challenges in building rapport due to poor communication skills among students and frequent absenteeism, which exacerbates disengagement. Time constraints and a lack of institutional support hinder teachers’ abilities to provide individualized assistance, while family issues, such as financial struggles and limited parental involvement, further complicate the educational landscape for SARDO students. The study concludes that a comprehensive support system is essential, integrating communication strategies, attendance incentives, and community partnerships, along with early intervention protocols. Recommendations include enhancing family engagement through regular communication, implementing attendance reward programs, and providing professional development for educators. By addressing these multifaceted challenges, this research aims to inform educational strategies and policies that foster resilience and academic success among at-risk students, ultimately contributing to lower dropout rates and improved educational outcomes. |
