Abstract: This study investigates the discourse patterns in teacher-student interactions within English classes at Kibawe National High School, utilizing Sinclair and Coulthard’s Initiation-Response-Feedback (IRF) model as the primary analytical framework. Anchored in Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory and informed by principles of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the research seeks to examine how classroom talk constructs meaning and reflects the pedagogical dynamics between teachers and learners. Specifically, the study analyzes four transcribed classroom interactions to identify recurring IRF structures and evaluate the types of feedback employed by teachers—whether evaluative, elaborative, or dialogic. The findings reveal that most classroom discourse adheres to traditional IRF cycles, with teachers predominantly initiating and controlling exchanges. While student responses were generally brief and confined, variations emerged in interactional patterns and questioning strategies, highlighting the influence of teaching style and communicative approach. These insights underscore the need to shift toward more dialogic and learner-centered communication in English language teaching. The study offers valuable implications for improving classroom discourse practices, promoting critical engagement, and fostering active participation among high school learners.
